SEO by Yoast plugin incorporates a box in the post editor, used to define the description of the post, different to the abstract or summary. The description of the post is used in the snippet, the information in search results, while abstract or summary is what WordPress will use to display on some templates, instead of a full post. Next to the description, in the SEO plugin box, from version 3.0 is set by writing directly above it, you can also define the keyword in the post (main keyword), which will use to check if everything is according to the keyword: URL, title, content, description, etc.
Also, in the Snippet Editor section, in the editor box, you have the option of click on the title, URL or description, to modify them. In the end, the purpose it is the snippet of a post contain sufficient and well-structured information, with its keyword well located.
Also, you can configure your website if you don’t want to index some page or content. To enter advanced settings you must click the gear box "Yoast SEO" in the post editor. There you can activate the "noindex" option for a particular post with the "nofollow" option to not follow links related to that post. You could also define the canonical URL that is, by default, the permalink of the post.
Finally, you can set the title, description and image when the post is shared on Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, Google plus or any social network that you want. To do this, enter the tab with the social icon that you choose.
What pages of your blog is convenient to index?
The best measure that you can take to avoid duplicate content (something that Google penalizes) tells Google only indexed individual posts, the pages and categories. Everything else should not be indexed and you can avoid duplicated content. You have to notice that the first page of a label and a category could include the same content. And the same could happen with author page or file by date.
The Home of your website is a special case, which should always index the first of its pages, and Yoast SEO plugin, by default, only indexes the first page of the Home.
If you have a static page Home page or blog, the behavior is similar: only index the first page and Yoast SEO plugin will work out fine.
